Run ESXi from a USB flash drive

First, you need to ask yourself why you want to do this. If it’s just to test to see if your hardware will work with ESXi then proceed. If you plan on using this for a production server, STOP, this is not supported by VMware.

UPDATED: ESXi 4.1 now has the ability to install ESXi to a USB drive from the installation CD. Just plug in the USB drive, run the installer, and chose the USB drive as the install location.
